Renee Yao, Global Healthcare AI Startups Lead at NVIDIA, explains her work as a product manager and business development lead working at the intersection of AI and healthcare.

She recounts her childhood in China and the U.S., her path to Silicon Valley, and work where she is the liaison between her company and the client companies which use its products.

"Things change very quickly in the technology world. It's super important to help your kid learn how to learn instead of just honing in on specific subjects. Even in AI, we talk about software writing software. Maybe computer science skills are super important but think about what AI could potentially do in the computer science era where AI may be able to automate certain skills sets. Have your kids learn about the skill sets that will be applicable in the next 20-30 years."

ADVICE

  • focus on teaching kids core concepts and skills which won't change even if technology does
  • give kids the chance to explore different paths and change direction if they want to
  • encourage kids to create their own study paths, starting in high school
